A Little About Me...

Hello! My name is Peter, I'm a creative individual with a visual and musical background. I graduated from Kingston University with a First Class Honours degree in Photography. My focuses included: social documentary, conceptual/commercial photography and moving image. During my studies, I would write and record in my tiny London box room; collaborating with film, sound and art students, while also pursuing my own musical projects.

Whatever I was working on, I loved the process of designing to connect: whether it was connecting to the viewer or connecting the visual to the sound, that hasn't changed. I have experience in composing and sound design that I gained from working for independent film companies, corporate events and advertising. Image and sound is always how my brain has worked, so that's what I love to do.

Peter and the Mountain

Starting life as a bedroom project, Peter and the Mountain is another side of my music. When asked what this music sounds like, I call it "music made for a beating heart wrapped in a grizzly bears fur, and it consists of ambient dreamlike folk-pop cascading and wondering with textures, hook-full finger picking, space-filled drones and longing poetic lyrics".... or something like that.

'You Are A Bear, Take What’s Yours', is OUT NOW!

"Absolutely wonderful, majestic and strong"
- BBC Introducing

"Wiltshire’s Peter and the Mountain share a sparse minimal aesthetic with Ontario’s Great Lake Swimmers, and a similarly wide eyed and spiritual sense of melody. Intelligent and sensitive economy of playing from his band gives a sense of space to Peter Beckwith’s yearning melodies and intimate subject matter, making for a beautifully delicate and moving set of songs".
– Gladstone, London

"Placidamente sussurrate ma velate di un senso di latente inquietudine, le canzoni del suo mini album di debutto “You Are A Bear, Take What’s Yours” muovono al rallentatore su consolidati binari di intimismo narrativo, aggiungendo alle sofferte contemplazioni drake-iane di un Mark Kozelek le carezzevoli brezze di Neil Halstead".

"Everyone loved the soundtrack and obviously there was a funny story behind it. Dean met a guy on a train (as we all do) who happened to be a talented musician (Peter and the mountain). Peter produced this emotional soundtrack on the spot after watching the film only twice".

I met Peter on a train and enjoyed our chat so much I took down his details. After listening to his album I knew I had stumbled on something very special. His music was on my most played list for months. When I completed a short film which I shot in L.A I asked Peter if he would write the score. It was a joy to work with him, the result was amazing. It was perfect. Peter captured the spirit of the piece, he is very instinctive, very talented and I look forward to working with him again in the near future. The short was well received and audiences always remark on the music.
